| About Karen | |
I am a Licensed Counselor in private practice in Decatur, GA (a suburb of Atlanta), working with adult individuals and couples. Licensed in Georgia since 1996, I have extensive experience and training as a therapist, and am known for my caring, compassionate, and practical style of working with clients. I received my doctorate in Counseling from Texas A&M-Commerce and my masters in Counseling Psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi. I have a rich and varied range of experiences in the field of counseling, having worked as a clinician at various mental health centers, as a counselor at university counseling centers, as a director of a university counseling center, and as a professor in counselor education departments at universities in Texas and in Atlanta.
In addition to my private practice, I also provide continuing education workshops for therapists, and workshops and seminars for the general public. It's been said that I have an engaging presentation style, sense of humor, and ability to share information in a practical and down to earth manner.
I have served as a member of the American Counseling Association Ethics Committee as well as Senior Co-Chair. I was named Georgia's Counselor Educator of the Year for 2008, and I recently received the President's Award for Excellence in Teaching.
